Paradise Cove Luau - History of Luaus
It was agaisn't Hawaiian law for men and women to eat together, the royalty of Hawaii also forbade the common people to eat certain delicacies, these ancient celebrations were know
as 'Aha-Aina' a term for royal feast. When the Hawaiians changed their laws in 1819 at the command of King Kamehameha II when he stopped the old 'Kapu' system which stopped
his people from eating in the same manner that he did. The term luau was born as the King consented to women being allow to feast in his company. The name luau comes from
one of the favourite dishes where leaves from the taro plant where combined with chicken and cooked in coconut milk.
Traditionally you should be sitting on the floor for a luau but as times have changed most luaus now have seats and tables! Paradise cove won't leave you on the ground!
